Itinerary

Activity #1 - Early Morning Pickup and Departure

Hotel Pickup: Our guide and transportation will pick you up very early, between 4:00 AM and 4:30 AM, from your hotel in the historic center of Cusco. This early start is crucial to ensure we have enough time for the trek and to enjoy the lagoon with the best possible light and fewer crowds.

Activity #2 - Breakfast Stop in Mollepata

After a scenic drive of about two hours, we will arrive at the small town of Mollepata. Here, we will make a stop to enjoy a nutritious breakfast at a local restaurant. This will give you the energy needed for the hike ahead. You will also have a chance to use the restroom and purchase any last-minute supplies like water, snacks, or coca leaves.

Activity #3 - Arrival at Soraypampa and Start of the Trek

We will continue our journey by vehicle for about another hour on an unpaved road until we reach the trailhead at Soraypampa (3,900 m / 12,795 ft). This is the starting point of our trek and the same campsite for the first night of the famous Salkantay Trek. Here, you will get a final briefing from your guide, and you’ll have the option to rent a horse for part of the ascent if you feel you might need it.

Activity #4 - The Ascent to Humantay Lagoon

The hike begins. The trek is approximately 1.5 to 2 hours uphill along a steep and challenging path. As you ascend, you will be rewarded with spectacular views of the surrounding snow-capped peaks, including the majestic Salkantay and Humantay mountains. Your guide will set a steady pace, allowing for short breaks to catch your breath and acclimatize to the altitude. The final stretch is the steepest, but the reward at the top is more than worth the effort.

Activity #5 - Exploring Humantay Lagoon

Upon reaching the top, you will be greeted by the breathtaking sight of the Humantay Lagoon (4,200 m / 13,779 ft). The brilliant turquoise water, set against the backdrop of the massive Humantay glacier, creates a truly surreal and magical landscape. You will have approximately 45 minutes to an hour to explore, take photos, listen to the guide’s explanation about the sacred significance of the lagoon, and simply soak in the incredible scenery.

Activity #6 - Descent and Return to Soraypampa

After enjoying our time at the lagoon, we will begin the descent back to Soraypampa. The walk downhill is much easier and faster, typically taking around 1 to 1.5 hours. Be sure to watch your step on the loose gravel as you make your way down.

Activity #7 - Lunch and Rest

Once back in Soraypampa, our vehicle will be waiting to take us back to the area of Mollepata. We will stop at the same restaurant from the morning to enjoy a well-deserved, hearty buffet lunch featuring local Peruvian dishes. This is the perfect time to relax and share your experience with fellow travelers.

Activity #8 - Return Journey to Cusco

With our batteries recharged, we will board our transportation for the final leg of our journey back to Cusco. The return drive takes approximately 3 hours. You can use this time to rest or simply enjoy the passing Andean landscapes. The tour will conclude between 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM, with a drop-off at a central point in Cusco (usually near Plaza San Francisco or Plaza Regocijo).
