Tour Duration: Approximately 10 hours.
Start Time: 7:00 AM
End Time: Approximately 5:00 PM
Difficulty: Moderate (Involves long boat rides and a short, high-altitude hike on Taquile).
Maximum Altitude: 4,050 meters (13,287 ft) on Taquile Island.
At 7:00 AM, the tour begins with a pickup from the bus terminal (or your centrally located hotel) in Puno. We will then transfer you to the main pier to board our comfortable motorboat for the day.
Our first destination is the incredible floating islands of the Uros. During the boat ride, you will learn how these communities build and maintain their islands entirely from the native totora reeds. Upon arrival, you will be welcomed by the residents, who will share their culture, ancestral traditions, and unique lifestyle. You will also have the option to take a short ride on a traditional reed boat.
Continuing our tour, we will embark on a scenic journey of approximately 2.5 hours across the deep blue waters of Lake Titicaca to reach the natural island of Taquile.
Upon arrival at Taquile, we will begin a short but rewarding hike of about 30 minutes to the top of the island. Here, you will have an encounter with the local Quechua families, who are renowned for their intricate textile art, a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. From the top, you can appreciate the vastness of the lake in all its splendor.
We will enjoy a typical island lunch at a local restaurant, often featuring fresh trout from the lake or quinoa soup. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the unique culture and customs of the Taquileño people.
After a memorable visit, we will board the boat for our final journey back across the lake, concluding the tour upon arrival in the city of Puno in the late afternoon.

In Andean cosmology, Titicaca Lake is considered a sacred place where the sun and the moon rest each night. It is also believed to be the origin of the first Incas, Manco Cápac and Mama Ocllo, who emerged from its waters and founded the Inca Empire. This connection to the divine and the origins of the Inca civilization makes Titicaca a site of great spiritual and historical importance.
The Uros people use totora reeds for multiple purposes: they construct their floating islands, build their homes, and even use the reeds as food and medicine. The Apus, or mountain spirits, are believed to protect the Uros community. The connection with these spirits is an integral part of their cultural identity, and they believe that the Apus safeguard their way of life.
Chullpas are ancient funerary towers found near Lake Titicaca. These structures are believed to be guardians of the lake, watching over it and protecting the surrounding areas. The chullpas are steeped in mystery, and their presence adds to the spiritual and historical depth of the region.
The weavings of Taquile Island are highly significant, with their craftsmanship recognized by UNESCO. Each piece of textile tells a story, with specific colors and designs indicating personal status, such as whether a man is single or married. The community adheres to Inca principles such as “Ama sua, ama llulla, ama quella” (do not steal, do not lie, do not be lazy), which are reflected in their way of life, emphasizing honesty, hard work, and integrity.
The return to Puno after the tour of Titicaca Lake is often a time of reflection on the beauty and cultural richness experienced during the visit. The legend that those who leave an offering in Titicaca will always return adds a mystical element to the experience, leaving visitors with a sense of connection to the lake and its traditions. The golden hues of the setting sun over the lake enhance this emotional and contemplative moment, making the journey memorable and spiritually fulfilling.
